Safety files by trade

The law is the same for every trade. The hazards are not — and a file that does not reflect the work you actually do is the one that gets rejected at the gate.

One law, 30 different files

The Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 and the Construction Regulations 2014 are national and trade-neutral. No trade is exempt, and no trade has its own separate safety file law.

What differs is what has to be inthe file. The regulations require it to reflect the work actually being carried out, so a roofer's fall protection plan, an electrician's isolation procedure and a plumber's confined space permit are all doing the same legal job in very different ways.

Not sure which applies to you?

Most contractors do work that spans more than one of these. One MySafetyFile account generates files for as many projects and scopes as you need, at R500 each, with no monthly fee.
